Shabbat at Sinai

Shabbat is the most essential day of the week. Accordingly, Sinai has built a Shabbat-centered Jewish community, with a significant number of members attending Shabbat morning services each week. Members take an active role in all aspects of the services, leading the various parts of the service and chanting Torah and Haftarah. For those who do not think their skills are sufficient to lead services but are willing to learn, the Rabbi provides numerous learning opportunities (moreover, the informal nature of our synagogue encourages those who might be hesitant about participating to give it a try). A typical Shabbat morning service features participation from the full age range of Sinai members, including a number of post-B’nai Mitzvah teens, young adults, and more senior members.

Shabbat also serves as the focal-point of our nationally-recognized youth education program — FEAST (Family Education at Sinai Today). By connecting the FEAST program with Shabbat, our students recognize that Shabbat is the most essential day of the week, when the Jewish community gathers. Our veteran and elder members see our young families and appreciate that a new generation of Jews is connected and committed to the synagogue and our Jewish faith.

Another highlight of Shabbat at Sinai is the community lunch following Shabbat morning services almost every week (indeed, the FEAST acronym for our youth education program was chosen with the lunches in mind). These lunches foster a family-like setting in the community, allowing young children to feel comfortable spending time at the synagogue at an early age and letting all members — whether young or more senior — spend time catching-up with friends.

We encourage you to join us for our Shabbat worship. Morning services begin at 9:30am.
