Daily Minyan

People marvel that a Conservative synagogue of approximately 160 families has a daily minyan.  How does that happen?

It happens:

  • because our community is committed to the mitzvah of prayer,
  • because our community knows that there are many days when members need a minyan to say kaddish, and
  • because it helps connect our community to each other through small groups of 10-12 people.

At every minyan Rabbi Friedland offers a 5 minute Davar Tefillah on some aspect of prayer or the siddur.  Members are encouraged to make at least a one-day, one-minyan-a-week commitment, if possible.  Many come everyday. Our minyan takes place in the Wolff Chapel, our smaller, more initimate worship space that is separate from the main sanctuary.

During the months of Daylight Savings Time our 6:00 PM minyan is a Minha service with a special psalm recited at the end that allows those who need to say Kaddish that evening the opportunity to recite Kaddish.  During the winter months our 6:00 PM minyan is a Maariv service with a psalm recited before the evening service begins so those who have to say Kaddish during that day have the opportunity.  For a brief period at the end of winter we are able to recite both Minha and Maariv at 6:00 PM
