Holidays/Festivals

Festival celebrations are joyous at Sinai Synagogue.  Festivals are celebrated for two days.  Services are held at 9 am on Sukkot, the first, second and seventh days of Passover, Shemini Atzeret, Simchat Torah, and on two days of Shavuot.    

Rosh Hoshanah רֹאשׁהַשָּׁנָה- Head of the Year (1st and 2nd days of Tishri) L'Shanah Tovah - Order Lulavim & Etrogim

Yom Kippur יוֹםכִּפּוּר- Day of Atonement (10th day of Tishri) (Yizkor Memorial Service)
     Kol Nidre Break the Fast at Sinai following Neilah Service

Sukkot סוּכּוֹת- Feast of Tabernacles (15th day of Tishri)

Shemini Atzeret שְׁמִינִיעֲצֶרֶת- Assembly of the Eighth Day (22nd day of Tishri)

Simchat Torah שִׂמְחַתתּוֹרָה- Rejoicing of the Torah (23rd day of Tishri)
On the evening of Simchat Torah, a celebration including traditional dancing and Klezmer music attracts many congregants and their children.

Chanukahחֲנוּכָּה- Festival of Rededication (25th day of Kislev)

Tu B'Shevatבִּשְׁבָטטוּ- New Year for Trees (15th day of Shevat)

Purim פּוּרִים- Feast of Lots (14th day of Adar)
At Purim, a family Megillah reading precedes a traditional service, with congregants serving as readers.

Pesachפֶּסַח- (15th day of Nissan)

Yom HaShoah - Holocaust Memorial Day

Yom Hazikaron - Israel's Memorial Day

Yom Ha'atzma'ut - Israel's Independence Day

Lag B'Omer - 33rd day of Counting the Omer

Yom Yerushalayim - Jerusalem Day

Shavu'ot  שָׁבוּעוֹת- Feast of Pentecost

Tisha B'Av תִּשְׁעָהבְּאָב- Fast Commemorating the Destruction of Two Temples
