Sinai is a Conservative Jewish synagogue serving the greater South Bend, Indiana, area. Our relatively small size (approximately 160 memberships) fosters a true family feeling, with members of all ages gathering together to celebrate, learn, worship, and share in each others’ lives. We are egalitarian, with women and men participating equally in all aspects of synagogue life, including minyan participation, prayer leadership, and synagogue leadership.
Sinai Synagogue strives to provide a broad range of opportunities for members to live a meaningful Jewish life. Our youth education program (FEAST), developed to bring families together on Shabbat, is nationally recognized for its innovative approach to Jewish education. Our twice-daily minyanim serve as a model for other small synagogues. Our weekly Shabbat lunches encourage a significant percentage of members to gather together each week as an extended family. Rabbi Michael Friedland, who has served Sinai Synagogue since 1996, is widely recognized as a leader among rabbis who serve small congregations in the United States, and has spoken in various venues around the world about innovation and development in small congregations.
